CE Credits Not Reported to My State

Modified on Wed, 3 Jun at 10:16 AM

If your CE credits aren’t showing on your state’s Department of Insurance website, here’s how to troubleshoot.

Step 1: Wait for Processing

Important: Year-end deadlines — State CE-reporting deadlines (e.g., December 31 in many states) cut off based on when your state DOI processes the credit, not when you passed the exam. If you passed in late December, your credits may not appear on the state’s website until early January even though they were filed on time. The Institutes cannot retroactively change a filing date or contact NIPR / your state DOI to assert that credits were “earned” before midnight on a deadline. Plan to complete CE-credit-eligible exams at least 2–3 weeks before any state reporting deadline to avoid this race condition.

CE credits are reported within 2 business days of passing your exam. However, it can take your state 7–10 business days to process and display them. Florida allows up to 21 days.

If it’s been less than 10 business days, check back later before contacting support.

Step 2: Verify Your CE Filing Status

  1. Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
  2. Go to Grade History > Course History tab.
  3. Check the CE filing status for the course or exam in question.

If the status shows “filed”, credits have been submitted to your state — allow more time for the state to process them.

Step 3: Check Your License Info

Important: Some states do not allow late CE reporting. If your state has a reporting deadline that has passed, credits may no longer be reportable. Any late-reporting fees are the student’s responsibility.

Important: CE credits cannot be reported without your current state license number and/or NPN on file. If this information was missing when you registered for the exam, credits were not submitted.

  1. Go to My Account > Profile > Licenses.
  2. Verify your state license number and NPN are correct and current.
  3. If they were missing or incorrect, update them and contact Customer Success to request late reporting.

Step 4: Confirm You Elected CE

If you selected “No” for CE credit during exam registration — or didn’t see a CE option — credits were not requested. Contact Customer Success to see if a correction is possible.

Still Not Showing?

If your filing status shows “filed,” your license info is correct, and it’s been more than 10 business days, contact Customer Success with:

  • Your full name and student ID
  • The course/exam name and date passed
  • Your state and license number
  • A screenshot from your state DOI website showing the missing credits
