CE Credits Overview

Modified on Wed, 3 Jun at 10:16 AM

Common Misconception: CE credits are NOT automatically reported just because you passed an exam. CE credit must be elected during exam registration, and your state license number / NPN must already be on file at that moment. If you decline CE at registration, fail to enter license info, or sign up before adding it, your credits will not be reported until Customer Success makes a manual correction — and some states do not allow late corrections.

Many Institutes designation courses qualify for continuing education (CE) credit toward your state insurance license. CE credit availability depends on your state and license type.

How It Works

  • CE credit must be requested during exam registration — it is not awarded automatically.
  • Your state license number and/or NPN must be on file before registration.
  • After you pass, The Institutes reports your credits to your state within 2 business days. Your state then processes and posts the credits, which typically takes an additional 7–10 business days before they appear in your state system.

Common Misunderstandings

  • Not every course qualifies in every state — check the State CE Credit & License Information page before registering.
  • CE credits for your insurance license are separate from any CPCU Good Standing requirements (which have been discontinued).
  • CE credit reporting applies to designation course exams, not Masterclasses or Essentials courses.
