Common Misconception: CE credits are NOT automatically awarded just because you passed. CE credit must be elected at the time you register for the exam, and your state license number and/or NPN must be on file before registration. If you selected “No” for CE, declined to enter license info, or registered before adding it, your credits will not be reported until Customer Success makes a manual correction.
CE credits are reported to your state after you pass an exam — but only if you elected CE at registration and your license info is on file. Here’s how it works and how to fix common issues.
Before You Test
To ensure CE credits are reported:
- Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
- Go to My Account > Profile > Licenses.
- Enter your state license number and/or National Producer Number (NPN).
- Save your changes before registering for your exam.
If you don’t know your NPN, look it up at nipr.com.
How Long Does Reporting Take?
- CE credits are reported within 2 business days of passing your exam.
- Florida: The Florida Department of Financial Services allows up to 21 days for CE providers to report credits.
- Reporting timelines vary by state — allow 7–10 business days before checking with your state’s Department of Insurance.
Check If Your Credits Were Reported
- Log in to your Institutes account.
- Go to your Grade History > Course History tab.
- Review the CE filing status for your completed courses.
You can also verify directly with your state’s Department of Insurance website.
Common Issues
I didn’t elect CE at registration
Important: Some states do not allow late CE reporting. Any late-reporting fees (if permitted by the state) are the student’s responsibility. Contact Customer Success as soon as possible.
If you accidentally selected “No” for CE credit or registered without license info on file, contact Customer Success to request a correction. Include your name, student ID, exam name, and state license number.
My credits aren’t showing on my state’s website
Allow 7–10 business days for credits to appear. If they still haven’t appeared: - Verify your license/NPN is correct in your Institutes profile - Check your CE filing status in Grade History - Contact Customer Success if the status shows “filed” but your state doesn’t reflect it
I need CE for a CEU course (not a designation exam)
Note: CEU (Continuing Education Unit) courses have a separate enrollment and CE tracking system from designation courses. If you have questions about CEU course credits, contact Customer Success — they can assist with both designation and CEU programs.
