Transferring your exam moves your registration to a future testing window. But it does not automatically extend your course material access — those are two separate actions.
How Exam Transfers Work
Important: Transferring your exam does not extend your course material access. Your study materials expire on their original date regardless. After transferring, contact Customer Success separately to request a material access extension.
- You can transfer your exam to the next available testing window before your current window closes.
- A non-refundable transfer fee applies.
- Your exam registration moves to the new window; you can test at any time during it.
How to Transfer
Online:
- Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
- Go to My Courses & Exams.
- Click the Transfer Exam button next to your exam.
- Follow the prompts and pay the transfer fee.
By phone: Contact Customer Success at (800) 644-2101, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET.
Critical Deadlines
Important: Transfers must be completed before the last day of your current testing window. If you don’t transfer and don’t test, your exam registration is forfeited — you’ll need to register and pay the full exam price again.
- Online transfers: Available until 11:59 p.m. ET on the last day of the window.
- Phone transfers: Available until 6:00 p.m. ET on the last business day of the window.
After You Transfer
- Your exam will appear under the new testing window in My Courses & Exams.
- Contact Customer Success to extend your course material access to match the new window.
- Plan your study schedule for the new window.
Special Circumstances
If you need to transfer due to illness, bereavement, or other serious circumstances, you may qualify for a fee waiver through the Special Conditions process. See Hardship & Special Conditions Exam Transfers.
Transferring to an Earlier Window (Reverse Transfer)
Online transfers only move your exam forward. If you need to move to the current or an earlier testing window, you cannot do this on the website — contact Customer Success directly. You’ll pay the difference between the early registration fee and the standard exam fee.
