The Institutes has a mobile app for studying on the go. Which one you download depends on your designation:
- CPCU or AIC → The Institutes Courses App — audio lessons plus practice questions.
- Any other designation → The Institutes Course Companion — practice questions only.
Important: These two apps work differently. In Course Companion, many courses must be manually provisioned by Customer Success before they appear — syncing alone won’t do it. Standalone online courses, CEU courses, Essentials courses, and certain certificates don’t appear in Course Companion at all. If your course is missing after syncing, contact Customer Success with your name, student ID, and course name. The Courses App has no provisioning step — CPCU/AIC courses appear automatically once you’re signed in.
Before You Start
- You’ll need an active Institutes account with at least one enrolled course.
- Both apps are available for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
- Your app login must match your website login — same email and password, or your company email if your employer manages enrollment.
Steps
- Search the App Store or Google Play for the app that matches your designation:
- CPCU or AIC: “The Institutes Courses App”
- All other designations: “The Institutes Course Companion”
- Download and install the app.
- Sign in with your Institutes website email and password (or company email).
- Course Companion: tap Sync to load your enrolled courses. Courses App: courses appear automatically — no sync needed.
- Courses App: choose Learn or Practice. Course Companion: select a course to begin practicing.
What’s in Each App
Course Companion (all designations):
- Quizzes — practice quizzes tied to course assignments (select courses)
- Practice — interactive Exam Practice Questions with instant feedback and AI-assisted explanations (select courses)
Courses App (CPCU and AIC):
- Learn — audiobook-style audio lessons with adjustable playback speed, bookmarks, and sleep timers
- Practice — same Exam Practice Questions as Course Companion
Neither app includes full course content, study materials, flash cards, or simulated exams — audio lessons don’t count toward completion. For full content and completion tracking, log in at TheInstitutes.org.
Note: Exam Practice Questions progress carries over between Course Companion and the Courses App — you won’t lose your score history.
Troubleshooting
Can’t find the app?
Search “Course Companion” or “The Institutes” in your app store. The Courses App is a separate listing: search “The Institutes Courses App.”
Content missing after an app rename?
Course Companion: If you purchased content under a previous app listing, it doesn’t automatically transfer. Contact Customer Success to restore access.
Courses App: As long as you’re enrolled, your material should appear automatically. If it doesn’t, try the Reset button — if that doesn’t fix it, contact Customer Success.
Login error?
Use your preferred email from your Institutes account, not a personal email — verify it under My Account > Profile on the website.
