Understanding How the Mobile App Works

Modified on Wed, 26 Aug at 4:37 PM

The Institutes offers two mobile apps for studying on the go. Which one you use depends on your designation.

Important: These are two separate apps. The Institutes Course Companion (practice questions only) is available for all designation courses. The Institutes Courses App (audio lessons plus practice questions) is available only for CPCU and AIC courses right now, with more designations planned.

The Two Apps at a Glance

Course Companion Courses App
Available for All designation courses CPCU and AIC only (for now)
Assignment quizzes Yes No
Practice questions (EPQ) Yes — interactive, with instant feedback and AI-assisted explanations Yes — interactive, with instant feedback and AI-assisted explanations
Audio lessons No Yes
Full course content No No

Practice questions are the same interactive experience in both apps — not static quizzes. Each answer gets instant feedback, and a built-in AI assistant can explain anything you miss.

Neither app replaces your online course — both are study supplements. Full course content, activities, and completion are tracked on TheInstitutes.org.

How to Get Started

Both apps use the same login as your Institutes website account (or your company email, if your employer manages your enrollment). See The Institutes Mobile App for download and setup steps for whichever app matches your designation.

Common Issues

My courses aren’t showing up

For Course Companion, many courses must be separately provisioned by Customer Success — syncing alone won’t fix it. The Courses App doesn’t require provisioning — if you’re enrolled in a CPCU or AIC course, it should appear automatically after you sign in. If it doesn’t, contact Customer Success with:

  • Your full name and student ID
  • The course(s) you need in the app

I can’t find the app

Search for “Course Companion” or “The Institutes” in your app store. The Courses App is a separate listing — search for “The Institutes Courses App.”

Will my practice question progress carry over to the Courses App?

Yes — your Exam Practice Questions (EPQ) progress carries over. You won’t lose your history of scores or missed questions.

Login isn’t working

Make sure you’re using the preferred email address on your Institutes account — not a personal email. Your app login must match your website login.
