Understanding Course Access, Exams & Expiration Dates

Modified on Fri, 8 May at 12:05 PM

Course materials, exam registrations, and testing windows are three separate things with their own timelines. Understanding how they work together will help you avoid surprises.

How It Works

  • Course materials expire one year from the date of purchase. This is your access to online study content.
  • Exam registrations are tied to a specific testing window (Q1–Q4). If you don’t test during that window, the registration is forfeited.
  • Testing windows run in quarterly cycles: Jan 15–Mar 15, Apr 15–Jun 15, Jul 15–Sep 15, Oct 15–Dec 15.

These timelines are independent. Your course materials can expire before your exam window opens, or your exam window can close while your materials are still active.

Common Misunderstandings

Important: Course materials and exam registrations are separate purchases. Buying a course does not register you for an exam. Buying an exam does not include course materials. They expire on different dates.

Important: The testing window you select when purchasing a course is only a planning estimate — it does not commit you to that window. You choose your actual exam window when you register for the exam.

Important: Transferring your exam to a new testing window does not automatically extend your course material access. You must contact Customer Success separately to request a material extension after your transfer.

Important: Course access extensions require an active exam registration. You must register and pay for an exam before an extension can be granted.

A Typical Timeline

Here’s how the pieces fit together for a student purchasing in January:

  1. January — You buy course materials (access expires January of next year) and register for the Q2 exam window (Apr 15–Jun 15).
  2. April–June — You take your exam during the Q2 window.
  3. After passing — Your course materials remain accessible until they expire, but you no longer need them. Expiration notices can be ignored.

If you need to push your exam back, transfer to a later window and then contact Customer Success to extend your materials to match.
