If you don’t pass an exam, you can purchase a retake as soon as your results are posted — no waiting period required. Results appear in My Courses & Exams within 48 hours of testing.
Same testing window retakes are $80 off the standard exam price. Future window retakes are not discounted — you pay the registration rate in effect at the time of purchase.
How to Register for a Retake
- Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
- Go to My Courses & Exams or your designation exam page.
- Select the exam and choose Purchase Retake.
- Select your testing window. To retake in the same testing window and receive the $80 discount, select the current window. To register for a later date, choose a future window.
- Review your cart to confirm pricing, then complete checkout.
Retake Limits
- One retake per testing window (in addition to your original attempt).
- Up to four unique exams per testing window — retakes do not count toward this limit.
- You must purchase a new exam attempt each time — retakes are not automatic.

Note on promotions: Occasional promotions may offer free retakes for specific courses. Promotions are time-limited, vary by course, and are not available for all exams.
After a Non-Pass: What to Know
Important: The Institutes does not provide exact numeric scores or question-by-question feedback. Use your topic-level performance report to identify areas to focus on for your next attempt.
- Scores are reported in 10-point ranges (e.g., 60–69) — not exact percentages. A topic-level performance report is available for non-passing attempts.
- Specific questions and answers are never disclosed — this protects exam integrity.

Not Ready to Retake Yet?
