If you don’t pass an exam, you can purchase a retake. Same-window retakes are available at a discounted price.
Before You Start
- You’ll need your exam results (available in My Courses & Exams within 48 hours of testing).
- Have a payment method ready.
- There is no mandatory waiting period — you can purchase and take a retake as soon as results are posted.
Important: Retakes within the same testing window are discounted, not free. You must purchase a new exam attempt each time. There is no free retake unless a specific promotion applies.
How to Register for a Retake
- Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
- Go to My Courses & Exams or your designation exam page.
- Select the exam and choose Purchase Retake.
- Select the same testing window (for the discounted price) or a future window (at the standard exam price).
- Review your cart to confirm pricing, then complete checkout.
Retake Limits
- One retake per testing window (in addition to your original attempt).
- Up to four unique exams per testing window — retakes do not count toward this limit.
Retake Pricing
| Scenario | Price |
|---|---|
| Retake in the same testing window | $80 off the standard exam price |
| Retake in a future testing window | Standard exam price |
After a Non-Pass: What to Know
- Scores are reported in 10-point ranges (e.g., 60–69) — not exact percentages. A topic-level performance report is available for non-passing attempts.
- Specific questions and answers are never disclosed — this protects exam integrity.
- Study tools to help you prepare: assignment quizzes, exam practice questions, the QuizMe app, and the Simulated Exam.
Important: The Institutes does not provide exact numeric scores or question-by-question feedback. Use your topic-level performance report to identify areas to focus on for your next attempt.
Not Ready to Retake Yet?
If you’re registered for a retake but need more time, you can transfer to a future testing window before the current window closes. A transfer fee applies. See Understanding Exam Transfers & Study Materials.
