I Can't Log In / Forgot My Password

Modified on Wed, 3 Jun at 10:17 AM

Most login issues are resolved by resetting your password or confirming the email address on your account. Start with the steps below.

Reset Your Password

  1. Go to TheInstitutes.org and select Sign In.
  2. Click Forgot your password?
  3. Enter the email address associated with your account.
  4. Check your inbox for the password reset email and follow the link to create a new password.

Not receiving the reset email?

Important: Your account email may be different from the one you’re using. If you’ve changed employers, your account may still be tied to your former work email. Contact Customer Success to update your email if you no longer have access to the original address.

  • Check your spam or junk folder.
  • Make sure you’re entering the email address that’s on file with your account — this may not be the email you expect (see below).
  • Wait a few minutes and try again.
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox recommended).

Note: If you took courses years ago and can’t get back in, your old account is almost certainly still there — don’t create a new one. See Returning to The Institutes After a Hiatus for the recovery path.

Check Your Username

Your username is the preferred email address on your Institutes account. To verify or update it:

  1. Sign in and go to My Account > Profile > Email.
  2. Confirm the email shown is your current preferred email.
  3. If it needs updating, change your Preferred Email and save.

Use the updated email the next time you sign in.

Try Basic Browser Fixes

If your password is correct but you still can’t get in:

  • Switch browsers — use Chrome, Edge, or Firefox (latest version).
  • Disable extensions — temporarily turn off ad blockers and pop-up blockers.
  • Clear cache and cookies — in your browser’s Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear browsing data.
  • Close the browser completely, reopen, and try again.

Have Multiple Accounts?

Multiple accounts can cause missing grades, exam history, and purchases. Do not create a new account. Instead, contact Customer Success to merge your accounts. Have ready:

  • Full name
  • Current and previous email addresses
  • Student ID(s), if available
