CPCU Updated Program (2023) — What Changed

Modified on Wed, 1 Apr at 3:57 PM

Understand the updates made to the CPCU program and how they affect current and new students.

Why was CPCU updated?

Risk management and insurance are changing rapidly. The CPCU program was updated to ensure that CPCUs gain a holistic view of the insurance value chain, develop practical leadership skills, and are positioned to lead the future.

What changed?

  • CPCU still requires 8 courses and 8 exams.
  • CPCU 550 (Maximizing Value with Data and Technology) was added as a new core course.
  • Course titles and content for CPCU 500, 520, 530, and 540 were updated.
  • Coverage courses were streamlined from 3 to 2: CPCU 551 (Commercial Insurance) and CPCU 555 (Personal Insurance and Financial Planning).
  • Elective options remain the same.

What about retiring courses?

CPCU 410, 553, and 557 have retired and are no longer part of the updated program. The deadline to test on those materials was December 15, 2023.

Did I lose credit for courses I already completed?

No. You retain credit for all courses you've already completed. Check your Progress Tracker for your personalized recommended pathway based on your current completions.

Did course packages or pricing change?

The Recommended Package still includes the online course, printed course book, study outline, quizzes, practice exams, simulated exam, flashcards, and discussion boards. Standard annual price adjustments may apply.

Are waivers still accepted?

Existing waivers (including AINS-to-CPCU cross-credits) remain valid for students who were previously grandfathered in. There are currently no waivers available for CPCU 550.
