The AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting) designation was updated on October 15, 2026 — all-new course content built for an increasingly AI-centric underwriting environment. If you’re partway through the current program, your progress is preserved, but there’s a testing deadline to know about.
Why was AU updated?
The update is designed to equip underwriters to make stronger decisions and better support their organizations as commercial underwriting increasingly incorporates AI. It also adds a new cross-designation requirement — see below.
What changed?
- Course titles and numbers changed:
| Current Course | New Course |
|---|---|
| AU 60 | AU 300: Strengthening Commercial Underwriting Decision-Making |
| AU 61 | AU 301: Analyzing Commercial Accounts |
| AU 62 | AU 302: Advancing Commercial Underwriting Strategy |
- AU also requires completion of CPCU 551 or CPCU 552, plus Ethics 311, in addition to the three AU courses above.
- New exams (AU 300, 301, 302) are available starting October 15, 2026.
- Credit earned for AU 60, AU 61, and AU 62 applies toward AU 300, AU 301, and AU 302, respectively.
- CE credit filing for the new courses is in progress and pending state approval — see CE Credits Overview for how to check your state’s status once available.
What about the retiring courses?
Important: The current AU 60, AU 61, and AU 62 are being retired. AU 60, 61, and 62 course materials are no longer available for purchase online, but you can still buy them by contacting Customer Success until December 1, 2026. If you already have them, you have until December 15, 2026 to test on this expiring material. Exams on the new AU 300, 301, and 302 content are offered starting October 15, 2026, so both versions are available during the October 15 – December 15, 2026 testing window.
Did I lose credit for courses I already completed?
No. If you’ve already passed an exam under the current AU 60, 61, or 62, that credit stands — you don’t need to retake anything.
Note: If you purchased the current course materials but haven’t tested yet, you have until December 15, 2026 to sit the exam. Passing before that date gives you credit toward the corresponding new course (AU 60 → AU 300, AU 61 → AU 301, AU 62 → AU 302, respectively). If you don’t test in time, you’ll need to complete the new version of that course instead.
If you purchased AU 60, 61, or 62 materials but haven’t opened them yet, contact Customer Success to discuss your options.
Do I need to start over?
No. This works the same way as any other program update: your Progress Tracker reflects your completion history and shows exactly what’s left. See What Happens When a Program Is Updated? for how that works generally.
What about the AU-M management add-on?
The current AU 67 course (used to earn the AU-M add-on designation) will also be replaced, by a new AU 330, at a later date — a specific timeline hasn’t been announced yet. See Management Add-On Designations (AIC-M, AU-M) for the general AU-M process.
