When The Institutes updates a designation program, your existing progress is preserved. Here’s what changes and what doesn’t.
What Stays the Same
Important: You will never lose credit for courses or exams you’ve already passed, even if the program structure changes. Your Progress Tracker shows exactly which requirements remain for you.
- Courses you’ve already completed still count toward your designation.
- Exam results (pass or non-pass) remain on your record.
- Cross-credits you’ve already earned are not affected.
- Your Progress Tracker is updated to reflect your specific situation based on your completion history.
What May Change
- New courses may be added to the program (e.g., CPCU 550 Data and Technology was added in 2023).
- Course requirements may shift — some electives or concentrations may be updated.
- Older cross-credits may no longer apply — for example, some pre-2023 AIC cross-credits to CPCU were retired with the program update.
- Study materials may be updated — if you repurchase materials for a course, you’ll receive the current edition.
How to Check Your Requirements
- Log in to your account at TheInstitutes.org.
- Go to My Account > Progress Tracker.
- Review your completed courses, remaining requirements, and any cross-credits applied.
Your Progress Tracker is personalized — it reflects program updates as they apply to your specific completion history.
Do I Need to Start Over?
No. Program updates are designed to build on existing progress, not reset it. If you’re unsure how an update affects your remaining requirements, check your Progress Tracker or contact Customer Success.
