Claims & Underwriting Designations Overview

Modified on Wed, 3 Jun at 10:17 AM

The Institutes offers designations for claims and underwriting professionals at every career stage.

How It Works

Important: Some older AIC course numbers (e.g., AIC 33, AIC 35) have been retired and replaced. Check the current program page for the latest course list.

  • AIC (Associate in Claims) — For claims professionals. Covers claims handling, investigation, negotiation, and management. Students choose an elective track to specialize in auto, liability, property, or workers compensation claims.
  • AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting) — For underwriting professionals. Covers risk selection, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • AIC-M / AU-M — Management add-on designations for AIC or AU holders who want to develop leadership skills.

Common Misunderstandings

  • The Institutes does not offer student loans or financing plans. Course materials are purchased individually or through employer sponsorship.
  • If your employer is covering costs, contact them for the correct ordering process — do not contact the CEU team for designation course questions.
