The CIIM (Chartered Insurance Investment Manager) designation is designed for professionals who manage insurance company investment portfolios.
Overview
CIIM is one of The Institutes’ newer designations focused on the investment-management side of insurance — bond portfolios, equity allocations, asset-liability matching, and the regulatory and accounting context that’s specific to insurance balance sheets. Unlike most Institutes designations, CIIM applies across both property-casualty and life/annuity insurers.
Like other Institutes designations, CIIM consists of a small set of online courses (each with its own exam) plus an ethics requirement, and the designation does not expire or require ongoing CE once earned.

- Finance professionals working with insurance assets
- Professionals in both property-casualty and life insurance/annuities sectors
Note: CIIM covers investment management across all insurance lines — it is not limited to property-casualty.
