Learn what’s allowed and expected during a virtual exam to ensure a fair, secure testing experience.
Essentials
- You are the registered test-taker and must complete the exam without assistance or communication with others.
- You must follow the Virtual Exam Rules of Conduct and the Code of Academic & Professional Integrity.
- The Institutes uses data forensics and exam recordings to review irregularities and may invalidate results.
- Calculator use is allowed.
- Scratch paper is permitted for notes or calculations during the exam (no study notes).
What is Not Allowed
Any outside resources, including:
- Study notes, books, course materials, or websites
- Phones, tablets, second computers, smartwatches, or other devices
- Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT)
- Communication with anyone during the exam.
- Copying, photographing, transcribing, reconstructing, or sharing exam content in any form.
- Using multiple monitors for the exam recording (select and use only one monitor with your webcam).
Exam Conditions
- This is a timed exam. Once started, the timer cannot be paused.
- Exam content is confidential. No questions, answers, or copies of the exam are returned or released.
Virtual proctoring (process & privacy)
- Recorded, not live: Your webcam and screen are recorded by The Institutes’ proctoring partner Talview. Recordings are reviewed by the Assessments team only if flags occur.
- Human review: Flags do not result in automatic failure. AI does not make pass/fail decisions.
- Data protection: Recordings follow GDPR and related data-protection standards. You will be asked to consent before the exam begins.
After the exam
- Immediate grade is provided for most virtual exams.
- For non-pass results, a topic-level grade report is available (typically within 24–48 hours).
- Numeric scores and exam copies are not provided to preserve exam integrity.
If something goes wrong
- Technical issue during the exam: Reconnect and relaunch.
- If you cannot resume, contact Customer Success (Mon–Fri, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ET).
